Cogan’s store is authorized to open.
March 4, 1634
Court of Assistants appoints John Cogan as the sole agent in town with the authority to buy and resell goods, which he subsequently does from a store located near today’s 28 State Street. The first store in Boston, it is more like a trading post, soon fails, however, and other merchants are also allowed to open shops.
